Champagne Velvet Pilsner

The 1901 Champagne Velvet Pilsner is one of the early "Golden Beers". The historic recipe is different in flavor than what most of us are accustomed to in a pilsner beer. Budweiser®, Coors® and others are primarily barely and rice, rice being plentiful and reasonable in cost, and US citizens were not use to the taste of beer after prohibition ended. Champagne Velvet Pilsner is based on a pre-prohibition recipe that called for primarily barely and corn flakes. Being in the corn belt the Terre Haute Brewing Co. used corn flakes 100 years ago for the same reason Anheuser-Busch uses rice today. There certainly is a difference in flavor. C.V. is truly a full bodied pre-prohibition pilsner that is sparkling as Champagne and smooth as Velvet.

Champagne Velvet Amber Lager (Amber)

Velvet is our amber beer, based on the 1901 Champagne Velvet Pilsner recipe using a lightly roasted barley malt to provide a caramel color and light body. This beer is also a lager, fermenting for three weeks to smooth out the taste. The Velvet label was first used in 1892, for which the trademarks were bought and the label is used to this day.

Champagne Velvet Bock

CV Bock uses caramel and chocolate barely malt, which yield a dark color. It requires 2-3 times more grain than our other beers, resulting in a stronger brew. Do be aware the alcohol content is approximately 7.5%, and technically making CV Bock a dobbelbock. This beer is also a lager, fermenting for a total of four weeks.  The extra time spent fermenting our bock produces a dark beer this is smooth to taste.
